All students planning to use federal benefits must apply through the VA (visit VA.gov) to determine eligibility. The following information explains how the payments will be dispersed.
All students using federal benefits for the first time must submit their COE (or NOBE for CH 1606), other than VR&E beneficiaries. In addition, all students using any federal benefit must submit their GI Bill® Certification form every semester.
Note: All federal benefit beneficiaries should receive their monthly payment on the first of every enrolled month, provided they have submitted their certification documentation in a timely manner. Payments may be delayed if the certification documentation has been submitted close to when students would have received their payments. The amount of this payment can vary across the semester due to class load as determined by each session. It is recommended that students maintain full-time status to receive their full monthly payment.
Refer to your respective benefit below to learn how your payments will be dispersed.
As a veteran using Chapter 1606 or Chapter 30 benefits, you are the sole beneficiary of VA payments. As such, you are responsible for using those VA payments to pay for your courses, books and other school materials.
You must verify your enrollment every month using the WAVE system or by calling 877-823-2378.
As a veteran using Chapter 31 benefits, your tuition should be sent to the school directly. You should also receive book credit for your courses and your monthly payment from the VA.
In addition to submitting the GI Bill Certification Form each semester, check in with your VR&E counselor to make sure you have a valid authorization on file with the college.
As a veteran using the Post 9/11 GI Bill®, the VA should send payment for your Tri-C tuition and fees directly to the school. Note that the VA shall pay tuition and fees up to Tri-C's in-state costs. If you are attending or listed as out-of-state, you may be personally responsible for a portion of your tuition and fees. You should also receive a monthly payment and book stipend. Your book stipend is usually included in your first monthly payment, but it can come separately before the semester starts.
You must verify your enrollment every month. Most students choose to verify enrollment through text messages. You may opt in by text message during your initial certification. For other methods, refer to VA.gov.
As a student using Chapter 35 benefits, you are the sole beneficiary of the payments. As such, you are responsible for using those VA payments to pay for your courses, books and other school materials.
Academic Information
Students using federal benefits have access to priority registration, allowing them to be one of the first groups of students to register for next semester's courses. Check our academic calendar for priority registration dates or contact the VMCS staff.
Before making changes to enrollment after being certified, speak to one of your VMCS program managers. Changes in enrollment may affect your monthly payment and even result in the VA recouping payment already made.
Scholarships
All students receiving the ONGSP should have their tuition paid directly to the school. ONGSP only pays for tuition — meaning students receiving the ONGSP are responsible for paying for their school fees and books.
