In the Vascular Sonography program students learn to evaluate hemodynamics (blood flow) of peripheral (upper and lower extremities), cerebral (carotid and intracranial vessels), and abdominal blood vessels (aorta, IVC, mesenteric, renal, liver). Vascular ultrasound is used to assess narrowing of the arteries due to plaque, for deep and superficial thrombus, vein mapping, and evaluation and treatment of varicose veins.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the ARDMS registry exams of Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) Physics exam and the specialty exam for Vascular Sonography.
Program Goal
To prepare competent entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains for the Vascular Sonography concentration.
