Abusive Relationships
Abusive defined:
- Extremely offensive and insulting
- Engaging in or characterized by habitual violence and cruelty
Each relationship can present unique challenges. Unhealthy patterns can develop when a relationship goes "unchecked." There are common red flags when a relationship is in trouble (or off track) shown in communication problems, managing conflict and trust.
Understand the difference between unhealthy and abusive relationships and learn the signs.
Physical and Domestic Violence
Sexual Violence
The term "sexual violence" is an all-encompassing, non-legal term that refers to crimes like sexual assault, rape, and sexual abuse (RAINN, n.d.).
Verbal Abuse
Verbal abuse in a relationship can happen spontaneously and the recipient of the abuse often questions what they did to bring it on or even think they're overreacting (Hughes, n.d.).
Making a Safety Plan
A safety plan is a personalized, practical plan to improve your safety while experiencing abuse, preparing to leave an abusive situation, or after you leave (love is respect, n.d.).
