Plagiarism Detection
Turnitin functions in Brightspace for detection of plagiarism and AI use.
- Turnitin compares submitted assignments against a set of academic papers to identify areas of overlap between the submitted assignment and existing works
- Turnitin searches the internet for plagiarism however, it is not 100% accurate, for instance, they cannot search websites behind logins
- Additionally, Turnitin verifies if Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been used while creating an assignment.
Faculty have the option to use this application in assignments for review of plagiarism. Faculty can also turn it on for students, so students can see if they are plagiarizing.

Turnitin in Blackboard
In order to access a Turnitin Instructor account, faculty must first create an assignment in Blackboard Learn Original LMS using the LTI link (go to a Content area, select Build Content then select Turnitin). Once the LTI link is created, visit the Turnitin Homepage, click "Login" at the top right of the screen and select "Forgot Password". This will reset the password and give access to the instructor page. By completing these steps, “Quick Submit” feature will be made available.
