Tri-C Names MetroHealth as Official Health Care Provider for Athletics Programs
Sports specialists will support students in eight sports with world-class care
To support the physical health of Triceratops athletes, Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) has partnered with the MetroHealth System to provide health care for the College's eight athletic programs.
As the official health care partner for Tri-C athletics, MetroHealth's sports medicine specialists will be on-site at all Tri-C practices and events to assist with training and any injuries. MetroHealth's experts will also conduct preseason physicals and concussion testing for Tri-C's athletes to ensure caregivers have baseline data to accurately diagnose concussions.
"When I began as the athletic director at Tri-C in July, part of my vision was to strengthen partnerships with leading health organizations like the MetroHealth System to provide our athletes with exceptional care," said Anthony Franklin, the director of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation at Tri-C. "Sports medicine is an essential part of our athletes' well-being — from the classroom to the locker room."
MetroHealth's Sports Medicine program includes caregivers from the health system's Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation programs.
"MetroHealth's sports medicine specialists are experts at caring for athletes at every level — from weekend warriors to college competitors and even professionals," said Dr. Heather Rainey, the director of MetroHealth Sports Medicine. "We bring the same level of expertise, innovation and personalized care to every athlete, helping them stay healthy, recover faster and reach their full potential on and off the field."
MetroHealth also serves as the official health care partner for the Cleveland Crunch, the 2024 Major League Indoor Soccer Champions. The health system's sports medicine specialists also work with Cleveland Central Catholic, Garrett Morgan, John Marshall, Lincoln-West and Lutheran East high schools.
Tri-C is part of the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC). Its men's sports program includes baseball, basketball and soccer. Women's sports consist of basketball, softball, cross country, track and field, and volleyball. During the 2023-2024 academic year, Tri-C earned league titles in women's basketball and baseball and won its first OCCAC All-Sports Trophy.
Last year, 15 Triceratops continued their athletic careers at four-year colleges and universities. Eight of those athletes signed letters of intent with Division I and Division II programs.
