Private Security Firearms Training
If you’re a security officer seeking firearms qualification or requalification, Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) has the training you’re looking for.
We offer two firearms training options: a 20-hour course for new firearms qualification (Ohio Revised Code 4749.10) and a four-hour requalification course (Ohio Revised Code 4749.10 (A)(4)). Group training is also available for private security companies.
Qualification Courses
Private Security Firearms Qualification (20 Hours)
- Class size: 5-20 students
- Schedule: Fridays, 6-10 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Cost: $275 and includes:
- Class handouts
- 9mm Glock 17 provided
- Three magazines
- Duty belt with holster, magazine pouch, belt keepers
- Eye and hearing protection
- Up to 200 rounds of ammunition
- May bring own weapon (with holster, ammo, two magazines or speed loader, pouch) - must be inspected by the instructor. If you bring a firearm that is not a 9mm, you must also supply your own ammunition.
- Two practice rounds prior to qualifying
Private Security Firearms Requalification (4 Hours)
- Class size: 5-20 students
- Schedule: Fridays, 6-10 p.m.
- Cost: $125 and includes:
- Class handouts
- 9mm Glock 17 provided
- Three magazines
- Duty belt with holster, magazine pouch, belt keepers
- Eye and hearing protection
- Up to 50 rounds of ammunition
- May bring own weapon (with holster, ammo, two magazines or speed loader, pouch) - must be inspected by the instructor. If you bring a firearm that is not a 9mm, you must also supply your own ammunition.
Course Requirements
- Perfect attendance is required per Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission regulation.
- Applicants must not have a criminal record (to include domestic violence or any conviction of a lesser offense or plea where the original charge was domestic violence).
- Dress code: Pants (no rips or holes) with belt loops, belt, non-skid shoes. A Long-sleeved shirt and baseball cap recommended.

All training is conducted at the KeyBank Public Safety Training Center’s on-site firing range, located on
Tri-C’s Western Campus at 7029 Homewood Ave.
