ALEKS Overview
- ACT/SAT scores are still acceptable.
- College Credit Plus (CCP) students will use the Next-Generation ACCUPLACER for math placement.
- High school students (non-CCP) intending to enroll at Tri-C after high school graduation will use ALEKS PPL for math placement.
- Students may not attend New Student Orientation (NSO) without having taken at least one proctored exam.
- Students have access to ALEKS PPL for 12 months from the time of first login.
- Students can take the ALEKS assessment up to five times total (proctored and unproctored).
- Students must complete their ALEKS learning pie (or a minimum of five hours in the Prep and Learn Module) between each proctored attempt.
- Students must wait at least 24 hours between proctored assessment attempts.
- Testing Centers may need to provide an override for a proctored assessment if:
- A student chooses to take a proctored attempt as their first assessment.
- A student starts an unproctored attempt or completes less than five hours in the Prep and Learn Module. (This is due to a system setting and is only an option to get the student into their first proctored assessment.)
- Students can enroll in ZBMT-1037: ALEKS Support Seminar prior to New Student Orientation, but the NSO hold will remain active.
- Students with the Fast Forward math hold have the following options:
- Enroll in a math course in the first semester.
- Enroll in ZBMT-1037 in the first semester and a math course in the second semester.
- Students who enroll in ZBMT-1037 without any credit courses may retake the ALEKS Support Seminar during their first semester of credit coursework.
- All new summer and fall 2019 students will get access to ALEKS PPL, even if they have already taken the ACCUPLACER.
- Continuing students should already have active placement scores or math registration. A case-by-base exception can be made to give continuing students access to ALEKS PPL.
- Students who receive an NP in MATH-0910 can work in ALEKS PPL and retake proctored placement tests if their 12-month subscription has not expired and if they have not used all five attempts.
- Students who no longer have active placement scores, or who have only one placement score and have not taken a math course in the last two years will get access to ALEKS upon request.
- Math faculty, math coaches, counselors and instructional specialists can refer other continuing students to ALEKS PPL, including proctored placement tests. The student must submit a referral form to the Testing Center to add the ALEKS banner attribute to their account.
- ESL students must enter the second level of ESL coursework before taking the math placement test. These students should wait to log in to ALEKS PPL until they are taking or have completed Level II ESL courses.
- Students with ALEKS placement scores from another institution (within the two-year timeframe) can have those scores securely sent to Tri-C. The College will accept the score, though not the placement. Students will be placed into a math course according to Tri-C’s cutoff placement scores.
- Do what is best for the student.
