First Generation Students
Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) is a First-gen Forward institution recognized for its commitment to students taking their family’s first steps into higher education.
What does it mean to be a first-generation college student?
A first-generation (first-gen) college student is someone whose parent(s) have not attended or completed a college degree. At Tri-C, we recognize students who have the courage to be the first in their family generation to enroll and complete a college degree, which includes an associate degree or higher.
What are First Scholar Advocates?
First scholar advocates are staff and faculty committed to ensuring the success and empowerment of first-generation college students by providing support through social, emotional, academic and financial resources.
What is the Tri-C First Scholars Institute?
The First Scholars Institute was developed to build community and a sense of belonging for first-generation college students. It includes ongoing programming to help first-generation students connect with each other, training for faculty and staff to support first-generation students, and setting measurable goals to increase first-generation student success through engagement and feedback from our scholars.
