Mitchel Jenkins
Mitchel Jenkins was working in retail management when he decided to continue his education to further his career. He chose Cuyahoga Community College because it offers classes that would allow him to continue to work full-time, and was impressed by what he found when he arrived at Tri-C. “The instructors are personable and passionate about teaching,” he said. “I never felt like a number here, and was able to absorb so much more. It’s not just about being more affordable, there is a drastic difference in the attention you receive.”
Jenkins particularly appreciated the classes he took with Human Resources Professor Dr. Edward Foley. “Dr. Foley was great at relating the material to real-world scenarios, which helped with my learning style,” he said. “He was the best teacher I had the privilege of learning from in my collegiate career.”
He graduated from Tri-C with two associate degrees in 2008, one in Business Management and the other in Human Resource Management, and is now working as a licensed loan officer for Union Home Mortgage. His job is to assist clients with home buying and refinancing, educate them on the options and match them with the best situation for their needs. “Ultimately, I help my clients live the American dream,” Jenkins said.
Jenkins would highly recommend Tri-C. “I learned a tremendous amount about how to not just manage a job, but to also manage people. That is a skill you can take anywhere,” he said. “I gained a thorough understanding of the laws in place to ensure I knew the best way to handle personnel situations that would arise. I learned how to be a better manager, co-worker and all-around employee.”
