'We Will Rock You’ to Showcase Music of Queen
Jukebox musical playing June 9-10 at Tri-C’s Eastern Campus
The music of the legendary rock band Queen will grace the stage for two nights in June in a quirky and heartfelt musical. The Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) Creative Arts Center of Excellence will co-present We Will Rock You with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra and the Tri-C Creative Arts Academy.
The show will run June 9-10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Simon and Rose Mandel Theatre at Eastern Campus (4250 Richmond Road, Highland Hills, Ohio 44122). This marks the first collaboration between the Creative Arts Theatre Department, Creative Arts Academy and its Contemporary Youth Orchestra in residence.
“We Will Rock You not only celebrates the amazing music of Queen, it’s also a unique opportunity to bring multiple departments and programs together to do something new and different,” said Charles Smith, Tri-C's director of production management. “I want people to enjoy something that isn’t typically done — the chance to see almost 200 performers on stage at the same time ought to be a very memorable experience.”
We Will Rock You follows two revolutionaries, Galileo and Scaramouche, on a quest to save rock ‘n’ roll in a post-apocalyptic world with no musical instruments.
Galileo and Scaramouche join a small group of societal outcasts, the Bohemians, as they fight to take back Earth — now known as the iPlanet — from the all-powerful Globalsoft Corporation, led by the Killer Queen. The group fights for freedom, individuality and the rebirth of rock ‘n’ roll.
Since 2002, this awe-inspiring production has thrilled millions of theatergoers across 19 countries. British comedy writer Ben Elton created this futuristic story around many of Queen’s biggest hits, including “We Are the Champions,” “Radio Ga Ga,” ”Somebody to Love,” “Killer Queen,” “Don’t Stop Me Now,” “Under Pressure,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Another One Bites the Dust” and “We Will Rock You,” with the original vocal score written by Brian May, Roger Taylor and Mike Dixon.
Reserved seating is available and parking is free. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at tri-c.edu/productions.
We Will Rock You is part of Tri-C's 2022-2023 Theatre Season. Visit Tri-C's Creative Arts webpage for more information. We Will Rock You is presented through special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide.
