Tri-C’s RTA U-Pass Program to Continue for Two More Years
College Board of Trustees extends free transportation program to June 2024
The Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) Board of Trustees has agreed to continue the College’s U-Pass program — administered in partnership with the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority — for two more years.
Students who have registered and paid for at least one credit hour are eligible to receive U-Passes, which allow Tri-C students to ride free of charge on all RTA buses and rapid trains during specific academic semesters. This now includes RTA service to the Westshore Campus, which was added in the summer of 2021.
The newly approved agreement will begin July 1, 2022, and end June 30, 2024. Up to 28,000 U-Passes will be available each fiscal year.
Tri-C and RTA are also in discussions regarding the proposed Mobile U-Pass program, which allows students to access the U-Pass via their smartphone (physical passes would still be available for those without smartphones). Tri-C has been selected as a beta testing site for the program. A tentative launch is scheduled for fall 2022.
The U-Pass program began in 2014. In addition to providing easier access to Tri-C campuses, which helps reduce parking demands, the program supports Tri-C’s sustainability commitment by lowering traffic volume and air pollution.
