Tri-C Students Receive Scholarships at Dr. King Observance
Twelve students recognized for academic excellence and community service
Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by awarding scholarships to a dozen students during the College’s 44th annual birthday observance of the civil rights leader.
The scholarships from the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Scholarship Fund recognize academic excellence and community service by Tri-C students who graduated from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District or other Cuyahoga County schools.
The 2020 scholarship recipients include:
- Dannetta Darden of Cleveland Heights, a graduate of Jane Addams Business Careers Center who is working toward a degree in nursing
- Kayla Farrar of Cleveland, a graduate of John Marshall High School who is studying human services
- Siren Greyson of Garfield Heights, a graduate of East Technical High School who is studying criminal justice
- Quiera Jernigan of Garfield Heights, a graduate of Cleveland Early College High School who is working toward an Associate of Science degree in sport and exercise studies
- Ingrid Jimenez of Cleveland, a graduate of John Marshall High School who is working toward an Associate of Arts degree with a focus on journalism
- Fatima Matute of Cleveland, a graduate of Cleveland Early College High School who is working toward an Associate of Arts degree
- Laniecia Owens-Palmer of Cleveland, a graduate of Cleveland School of the Arts who is studying visual communication and design with a specialization in photography
- Shelsey Rivera of Cleveland, a graduate of John Marshall High School who is studying captioning and court reporting
- Sharonna Rucker of Bedford, a graduate of Health Careers Center High School who is working toward a degree in nursing
- Lynn Shivers of Cleveland, a graduate of Health Careers Center High School who is working toward a degree in nursing
- Deangelo Woodruff of Cleveland, a graduate of Lincoln-West High School who is studying criminal justice
- Erica Young of Cleveland, a graduate of Glenville High School who is working toward a degree in nursing
The Cuyahoga Community College Foundation established the scholarship fund in 1991 with support from the Cleveland Teachers Union and other generous donors.
