Tri-C Receives 12th Consecutive HEED Award
Award recognizes colleges and universities committed to diversity and inclusion
Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) has received a 2024 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.
This is Tri-C's 12th consecutive year receiving the award, which recognizes U.S. colleges and universities demonstrating an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.
"We are very proud to receive the HEED Award for the 12th consecutive year," said Tri-C President Michael A. Baston, J.D., Ed.D. "Tri-C is a place where diversity is an essential component of how we operate as an institution. Our wide array of backgrounds, stories, identities and experiences make up our rich, vibrant institution. This recognition also reminds us to renew our commitment to diversity and inclusion so that this College can continue to be an asset, a resource and a place of belonging for everyone in our community."
The College will be one of 113 recipients recognized in the November/December 2024 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity. Tri-C was one of four Ohio schools — and the only community college in the state — to earn a 2024 HEED Award.
The award process consists of a comprehensive application that includes questions relating to the recruitment and retention of students and employees, the leadership support for diversity, the campus culture and climate, supplier diversity, and many other aspects of campus diversity and inclusion.
"We take a detailed approach to reviewing each application in deciding who will be named a HEED Award recipient," said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. "Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being done every day across their campus."
