Tri-C Famous: Diana Kovacic
#TriCFamous is a bimonthly feature that introduces readers to the people who make the College work while providing a sneak peek into their lives off campus.
Diana Kovacic joined Tri-C in 2013 as an associate professor of nursing at the Metro Campus, where she teaches obstetrics and pediatrics. She also serves as chair of the nursing faculty development committee. A registered nurse since 2005, she holds a doctorate in nursing from Case Western Reserve University. Learn more about Diana — and her flamboyant side hustle — in this week’s Tri-C Famous!
1. What’s your favorite book, and why?
"Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World" by Tracy Kidder. It details the life of Dr. Paul Farmer, founder of Partners in Health, and his work in Haiti and other parts of the world. Dr. Farmer is my idol and a true public health champion. I’d like to nominate this book for our Common Reading program.
2. Tell us about one of your hobbies.
I love to travel, and I’ve had a passion for international health ever since I studied abroad during my senior year in nursing school at Case. I’ve volunteered as a nurse in St. Lucia, Haiti, Thailand and, most recently, at a refugee camp on the island of Lesvos, Greece. I plan to return to Greece this summer to volunteer for a third time. I find these experiences to be humbling, enlightening and rewarding, both personally and professionally.
3. What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I recently earned an associate degree in interior design from Tri-C. I won two awards from the American Society of Interior Designers for commercial and residential design projects I created while in school. I also started my own business, Florid Interiors, which focuses on color, biophilia [the human instinct to connect with nature] and maximalist design. I took Professional Improvement Leave in fall 2021 to become a WELL Accredited Professional — an expert on how buildings affect health. Follow me on IG: @floridinteriors.
