Tri-C Cybersecurity Student Wins Technology Champion Award
Chris Wise recognized with scholarship from League for Innovation in the Community College
CLEVELAND — A cybersecurity student at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) was one of two national recipients honored with a scholarship from the League for Innovation.
Chris Wise was selected as a 2024-2025 Terry O'Banion Student Technology Champion winner. Each year, the League for Innovation gives the award to a community college student with an interest in a field of technology who demonstrates talent, passion, academic excellence and financial need. Winners receive a $1,000 scholarship.
The School of Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering and Computer Science presented Wise with the award on Monday, March 24.
With aspirations of becoming a cybersecurity engineer, Wise proactively works with College faculty to design honors projects as part of his degree. He developed a Python-based cybersecurity application that will detect and secure sensitive information for one of his recent projects. He also completed an internship with Tri-C's ITS department, where he developed solutions for user support services.
The Lakewood resident is known among his peers for his collaborative attitude and eagerness to assist colleagues with challenging tasks. He was on the dean's list in 2023 and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Wise "embodies the qualities of a Student Technology Champion through his resilience, dedication and commitment," said Karen Miller, Ph.D., Tri-C's provost and executive vice president of Access, Learning and Success.
