Tri-C Board Approves Levy for November Ballot
Levy would keep higher education affordable and accessible to residents
The Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) Board of Trustees voted today to place a 2.1-mill renewal levy with a 0.4-mill increase on the Nov. 7 ballot to sustain Tri-C’s vital educational and economic impact in Northeast Ohio.
The proposed levy keeps higher education affordable and accessible for county residents — a critical need as jobs increasingly require a college degree or workforce credential.
"By providing accessible, flexible education in industries vital to our region and connecting people to life-changing work, we can create inclusive prosperity for all Northeast Ohioans,” said Michael A. Baston, president of the College. “Tri-C’s impact is far-reaching and can be seen in the lives of the students we serve. Many of our graduates have gone on to pursue successful careers, start their own businesses and contribute to the economic development of our region.”
The request asks Cuyahoga County property owners to invest an additional $1.17 per month on $100,000 of property value. Collection of the levy would begin in 2024 and run for 10 years.
Tri-C currently offers the lowest tuition in Ohio while serving as the community’s leading education provider. Thousands of students each year graduate with the skills needed to launch careers with household-supporting wages, with 85% of Tri-C graduates living or working in Cuyahoga County.
Studies show the impact of investment in the College. For every dollar spent on education at Tri-C, the College provides $11.80 in economic benefits to Greater Cleveland and beyond.
“Tri-C has been instrumental in providing access to life-changing education, contributing to the region’s economic prosperity and resilience, and being the place where futures begin,” said Helen Forbes Fields, chair of the College’s Board of Trustees. “Since opening our doors in 1963 as the first community college in Ohio, we have served more than 1 million individuals to help them build a more purposeful and prosperous life, which is proof positive of the College’s success and importance to the county and its residents.”
