Tri-C to Host Tax Preparation Clinics for Earned Income Tax Credit Filers
Free clinics in February, March at Metro Campus
To maximize federal and state income refunds for low-income earners, Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) will host a series of tax preparation clinics to help eligible taxpayers claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Many eligible taxpayers are unaware of the benefit — approximately 24% of eligible filers didn’t claim the EITC for their 2020 taxes, according to the IRS.
The first clinic is Feb. 24 at the Metropolitan Campus with two more in March. Times for the clinic are:
- Saturday, Feb. 24 | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Wednesday, March 6 | 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
- Thursday, March 7 | 2 – 6 p.m.
All clinics will take place at:
- Tri-C Metropolitan Campus
2900 Community College Ave.
Technology Learning Center, room 154 (Parking is available in Lot 4)
The EITC is a federal benefit designed to help low- and moderate-income families, including those with children. The credit can reduce taxes owed, increase a refund or provide a refund even if no taxes are owed.
"For one in five county residents, the challenge of making ends meet is a daily reality,” said Denise McCory, Tri-C Metro Campus president. “Access to free tax services becomes a crucial lifeline as financial relief and an improved quality of life. Empowering individuals with the tools to maximize their taxes eases their financial burden and fosters a stronger, more resilient community."
Individuals will also be available to assist students and potential students with submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or creating a FAFSA ID.
Participants who want to attend an event should visit refundohio.org or dial 211 to make an appointment and receive information on what ID and documents to bring. Walk-ins are accepted.
Volunteer IRS-certified tax preparers will be available to assist participants to verify their eligibility for the EITC and file their returns electronically.
