School Safety Special Features Modern Training at Public Safety Training Center
WOIO segment highlights simulators used by police academy cadets, public law enforcement
The KeyBank Public Safety Training Center at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) gives current and future law enforcement officers critical active shooter scenario training tools.
The center at the College’s Western Campus has two state-of-the-art simulators — a five-screen projector and virtual reality — on which police academy cadets and law enforcement agencies can train.
As part of a special report by Cleveland 19 News on school safety, Tri-C’s public safety leaders spoke about the importance of modernized training to prepare for worst-case scenarios.
"We've been able to provide agencies with the most dynamic simulation training in the area," said Steven Hammet, director of the Tri-C Police Academy. "It’s 21st-century training. The technology is amazing, and it's constantly evolving."
Tri‑C’s academies train more emergency response professionals than any other academy in Ohio. The KeyBank Public Safety Training Center, which opened in 2014, is home to several public safety programs for students and provides training for public safety departments.
