Pianist Lang Lang To Perform Alongside Cleveland Students for ‘101 Pianists’
Free concert features 100 area students, takes place May 3 at Tri-C Metro Auditorium
This spring, international piano legend Lang Lang will present his music education program, 101 Pianists, in the Classical Piano Series, presented by Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®). The concert begins at noon on Friday, May 3, at Tri-C's Metropolitan Campus Auditorium in Cleveland.
This community-centered event will showcase 100 young pianists selected from Northeast Ohio schools, joining Lang Lang for a unique master class and public performance that celebrates the beauty and social nature of the piano.
101 Pianists is available to watch online beginning at noon on May 3.
The 101 Pianists, the brainchild of Lang Lang, seeks to share classical music with children around the world and offer piano students a chance to perform as a group.
"I started 101 Pianists to give piano students an opportunity to play together," Lang Lang said. "It started about 15 years ago at one of my concerts, where I invited students to join me for an encore, and we had a wonderful time. So, I wanted to do more of these events as a workshop and also a performance for the community. It’s now one of the key programs of my foundation."
Since its premiere in 2009, the program has inspired over 1,400 piano students in 15 cities around the world. Cleveland will be one of just six U.S. cities to host the program, alongside Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Long Island.
There are a limited number of free, general admission tickets for this special event, which can be reserved online. Free, secure underground parking is available in Lot 5 off Woodland Avenue near East 30th Street.
101 Pianists is presented in partnership with the Lang Lang International Music Foundation, Roland Corporation and Steinway Piano Gallery Cleveland.
This is the fourth performance in the 2023-2024 season of Tri-C’s Classical Piano Series, which is celebrating its 17th year of introducing emerging and established pianists from around the world to the Greater Cleveland community.
