Michael Baston to Participate in National Panel Discussion
Tri-C president to discuss student equity at Dept. of Education summit
Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) President Michael Baston will participate in a breakout session Thursday, Aug. 11, as part of the U.S. Department of Education’s one-day summit, “Raising the B.A.R.: Bold + Action + Results in College Excellence and Equity.”
The focus of the summit, which will take place at the Department of Education’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., is equitable student success. Baston will be part of a 10:30 a.m. panel discussion on value-added work and career pathways.
Baston and other higher education experts will discuss how institutions including Tri-C ensure workforce credentials earned in college lead to quality jobs with wages that provide for a higher standard of living.
The panel will look at how educational institutions are partnering with employers, aligning curricula to workforce needs and increasing the value of postsecondary education for students.
In addition to Baston, the panel will feature Anne Kress, president of Northern Virginia Community College; and Janine Davidson, president of Metropolitan State University of Denver (invited). Luke Rhine of the Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education and Latricia Hardman of the Office of the Under Secretary will facilitate the discussion.
