Horticulture Student Peyton Musgrave Wins Scholarship From ISA
Second-year student to graduate in May and continue studies at Kent State
Peyton Musgrave made the most of her time at home during the pandemic, and she's about to reap what she's sown.
Musgrave, a student in the Plant Science and Landscape Technology program at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®), is the recent recipient of a horticulture scholarship to continue her studies at a four-year university.
The Lakewood resident was one of three college students in the state awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Ohio Chapter International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).
"The COVID shutdown gave me some time to evaluate my career path," she said. "I decided to switch gears and go to school. My experience at Tri-C has been life-changing, and I am excited to continue my education."
After Musgrave graduates from Tri-C in May, she plans to pursue a bachelor's in environmental conservation at Kent State University and hopes to gain hands-on experience in the Metroparks. She had planned to go into urban farming, but an arboriculture class piqued her interest in tree health, tree climbing and environmental preservation.
Musgrave has also volunteered for the National Association for Landscape Professionals and the Ohio Landscape Association.
The Ohio Chapter ISA seeks to advance responsible tree care practices through research, technology and education while promoting the benefits of trees. Their scholarship program promotes professional arboriculture within the state.
