Former Tri-C Student Named to Crain’s '20 in Their 20s' List
Kyra Wells now teaches class that inspired her to become graphic designer
Kyra Wells never thought about becoming a graphic designer until she came to Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®). A professor suggested that career path after seeing Wells' drawings.
The next semester, she took a design class and "really fell in love with it."
Wells, 26, was recently named to the Crain's Cleveland Business "20 in Their 20s" list for 2024. The annual series highlights young leaders in Northeast Ohio who have established themselves in their industry and have a promising future.
As the creative marketing designer for American Greetings, Wells creates advertising campaigns for retail stores and social media accounts for American Greetings and Papyrus.
Wells earned two Associate of Applied Business degrees from Tri-C in 2017 and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Cleveland State University in 2020.
Wells has come full circle — she now teaches the same class that inspired her design career.
"I really like the fact that design was this combination of creativity and art and just being able to use … all those fun things that I learned in the traditional field," Wells said. "And then I had this opportunity to apply it to something really practical for people through design … I loved having purpose to the art that I was creating in a way."
