Fall 2024 Commencement: Robin Green Finds the Support To Succeed
Robin Green had to overcome a variety of obstacles while balancing her studies at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) with her personal responsibilities. Those challenges taught her resilience, time management and the importance of perseverance.
"I have a profound appreciation for the support systems around me, such as mentors, professors, colleagues and classmates, who helped me navigate difficult times," Green said. "Having faced challenges myself, I'm able to empathize with others who may be going through similar struggles. These connections have allowed me to build strong relationships with people, whether they are students or colleagues."
In addition to her Tri-C family, the Cleveland resident and Eastern Campus student received inspiration and motivation from her spouse and three daughters. Their love and encouragement pushed her to grow and strive for success in every aspect of her life.
"Being a mother has taught me invaluable lessons about patience, empathy and the importance of creating a strong support system," Green said. "My role as a wife and mother has shaped who I am today, influencing both my values and my approach to life."
After graduating with an Associate of Arts from the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences during Tri-C's Fall Commencement on Dec. 12 at the Wolstein Center, Green hopes to build on the skills she has gained at Tri-C.
"I've witnessed how education can transform individuals both personally and professionally, which inspired me to pursue a degree that would enable me to give back," she said. "I've always been motivated by a desire to solve problems and create meaningful change."
Describe your Tri-C experience. Has a specific person, class or event played a role in your success?
My experience at Tri-C was transformative. When I first enrolled, I wasn't sure what I wanted to study, but the variety of programs and the guidance from counselors helped me discover my passion. The professors were not only knowledgeable but also supportive. I want to thank my husband, daughters and my colleague, Fadi Hasrouni, for motivating me to obtain my degree.
How has Tri-C changed your life?
Tri-C has truly transformed my life by providing an accessible and supportive educational environment that helped me overcome challenges. The College offers the flexibility and affordability I need while also providing strong community support, which significantly influenced my career path and overall life direction. What stood out most to me were the dedicated professors who took a personalized approach to learning. The faculty genuinely care about their students' success, and the smaller class sizes allowed for a deeper engagement with the material, making my educational experience both impactful and enriching.
Do you have any pearls of wisdom to share with students considering a similar degree or certificate program?
Stay persistent. It's normal to face obstacles, but persistence is key. If you encounter difficulty, reach out for help, whether it's from professors, advisors or classmates. Everyone has a unique learning curve, and there's no shame in asking for support when you need it. Also, take advantage of the available resources. Colleges often offer a range of resources such as tutoring, workshops, career counseling and more. Don't hesitate to use them because they make a significant difference in your educational experience.
Tri-C will celebrate the academic achievements of its newest graduates during Commencement on Dec. 12 at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland. Check our News and Events page leading up to the event for more highlights from the Class of 2024.
