Eight Tri-C Students Named to All-Ohio Academic Team
Ayodele Onoyungbo named 2024 New Century Transfer Scholar by Phi Theta Kappa
Eight Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) students — the most of any two-year college in the state — were named to the All-Ohio Community College Academic Team, which recognizes the top students in academics, leadership and community service.
Fifty-six students from across Ohio were chosen for this year's team.
One of those scholars, Ayodele Onoyungbo, was also recognized nationally as a New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar and received a $2,250 scholarship. The New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar is awarded to one student in each state based on their academic accomplishments, leadership, activities and how they extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom. More than 2,200 students from more than 1,300 college campuses nationwide were nominated.
Onoyungbo will graduate from Tri-C this spring and plans to enroll at a four-year university to pursue a bachelor's degree in international relations and economics. She is a Mandel Scholar and participates in Tri-C's Democracy Fellows program to raise voter awareness.
The following Tri-C students — designated by campus — made the All-Ohio Academic Team:
- Metropolitan Campus: Dominique Ballard of Cleveland (third team); Kirby Bjostad of Cleveland (third team); and Taylor Mountcastle of Brook Park (third team)
- Eastern Campus: Ayodele Onoyungbo of Willoughby Hills (first team)
- Western Campus: Ashton Cooper of Lakewood (third team); Katrusia Fritzky of Cleveland (third team); and Seth Millhoane of Parma (third team)
- Westshore Campus: Samantha Cain of North Olmsted (third team)
Students were nominated by college faculty, staff and other campus leaders. First-team honorees will receive $500 scholarships, and second-team members will get $250 scholarships. The state recognized team members in April as part of Community College Month.
The All-Ohio Academic Team program is supported by the Ohio Association of Community Colleges, the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and Honda of America Manufacturing Inc.
