Dancer-Illusionist Group MOMIX Returns to Cleveland Feb. 5
Tickets on sale now for performance at Playhouse Square’s Mimi Ohio Theatre
MOMIX returns to Cleveland next month for VIVA MOMIX, a compilation of company favorites taken from all six of their world-famous shows. The performance is co-presented by Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) and DANCECleveland.
The dance troupe takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, in the Mimi Ohio Theatre at Playhouse Square. The program is part of the 2021-2022 Tri-C Performing Arts season and DANCECleveland’s 65th anniversary season.
MOMIX, a company of dancer-illusionists under the direction of Moses Pendleton, has presented work of exceptional inventiveness and physical beauty for 40 years. The company has developed a devoted worldwide following from its home base in Washington, Connecticut.
The performance will bring the best of their works from the past along with new, never-before-seen pieces. Seamlessly blending fantasy, acrobatics, magic and whimsy, the movement mixes modern dance with visual illusions sure to awe audiences young and old.
The mix-and-match variety of sections from Pendleton’s Botanica, Alchemia, Remix, Opus Cactus and Lunar Sea make up the two-act performance.
Pendleton has been one of America's most innovative and widely performed choreographers and directors for nearly 50 years. After co-founding the groundbreaking Pilobolus Dance Theatre in 1971, he formed his own company, MOMIX, in 1980.
Tickets range from $25 to $60 and can be purchased at dancecleveland.org or by calling 216-241-6000. Groups of five or more can call DANCECleveland at 216-991-9000 for discounted tickets. The event includes moderated pre- and post-show talks with performers and producers. (The pre-show chat begins at 6:45 p.m.)
Tri-C’s 2021-2022 Performing Arts season features various productions showcasing classical piano, jazz and dance, bringing a world-class artistic experience to the Greater Cleveland community. This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
