Feature article explores impact and best practices for corporate training programs
Community colleges often work closely with local businesses to develop training programs that meet regional workforce needs. At Corporate College®, a division of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®), such programs can help deepen the partnership through customized workforce training and consulting for organizations.
In a Community College Journal article, Geraldine Weiser, the executive director for client solutions at Corporate College, explained how corporate training is critical to regional workforce development. These programs can boost an institution and the community by helping organizations grow their talent and adding a revenue stream for community colleges.
"There isn't a major corporation or nonprofit organization in the Cleveland area that we haven't partnered with," Weiser said. "I get to work with some of the most amazing organizations around the world to support their talent development."
Corporate College offers affordable professional development training that is customized to a client's needs and delivered off-site, online, in a hybrid format or at the training center in Warrensville Heights.
Weiser detailed how Corporate College gets to know a local organization and its business needs. Her team will begin with a needs assessment to identify the root cause of a client's challenges, which can usually take a few weeks. From there, the team proposes a course of action, such as developing specific training programs for current or future employees.
The article also highlights some of the most popular corporate training topics at Corporate College and similar programs at other community colleges, such as communication skills, executive leadership training, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
Weiser added that Corporate College provides more than corporate training programs. It also offers client solutions, such as a quality improvement team that conducts a pre-audit to ensure that a client is prepared for a federal or state auditor visit.
"We're becoming more of a business consulting partner for our clients," Weiser said.
