A Discussion With Tri-C's Past Presidents
April 13 panel event at Cleveland Public Library looks at College's history and impact
Past and present leaders of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) will gather to discuss the College’s legacy as Ohio's first and largest community college and its impact on the region.
Tri-C and the Cleveland Public Library will host a panel of the College’s past presidents: David Chapman (representing his father, the late Charles E. Chapman), Nolen Ellison, Jerry Sue Thornton and Alex B. Johnson.
The public event, “Celebrating Legacy ~ Building Momentum: A Discussion With Tri-C's Past Presidents,” takes place from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, at the Cleveland Public Library in the Louis Stokes Wing (525 Superior Ave., Cleveland).
The panel is part of a week of events leading up to the inauguration of Michael A. Baston as Tri-C's fifth president on Friday, April 14. Visit Tri-C’s inauguration webpage for information.
Baston will moderate the panel as they discuss Tri-C's founding in 1963 and how it has evolved over the past 60 years to meet the changing needs of students, the region and its businesses.
"This is an extraordinary gathering that will bring together those who built an exceptionally strong foundation that continues to increase educational access, completion and new pathways to degrees and certifications,” Baston said. “Each of them left an indelible mark on the institution and the countless students who came to Tri-C seeking opportunity. I look forward to exploring their thoughts on Tri-C’s past and future with the community.”
“Cleveland Public Library is delighted to host Tri-C for this discussion honoring the rich history of the College and its bright future,” said Felton Thomas, Jr., Executive Director and CEO of Cleveland Public Library. “Just like libraries, community colleges are crucial in providing access to resources and education, ensuring that income is not a barrier to knowledge for Clevelanders and Northeast Ohioans.”
The event is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required at tri-c.edu/presidents. Complimentary parking for those who RSVP is available in the 200 Public Square Garage (320 Superior Ave.), located directly across from the library on Superior Avenue.
