"I always wanted to be a trombonist, a composer and a teacher. So I've been fortunate to make that work."
- Paul Ferguson
It wasn’t until Paul Ferguson was 15 years old that he picked up his first instrument but he certainly made up for any lost time. Today he is considered one of the most versatile, in-demand jazz trombonists in the Midwest.
The prolific writer, arranger and composer has scored over 250 compositions, many of which were created in collaboration with Cleveland-based artists. His work is also performed internationally.
After graduating from the University of Akron, Paul toured with the American Wind Symphony, the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. He earned a master’s degree from the prestigious Eastman School of Music.
Since 1988, Paul has been the director of Jazz Studies at Case Western Reserve University. He was awarded the Gil Evans award in Jazz Composition and in 2015 was named the Artistic Director for the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra.
