I am proud to have helped bring audiences the most thrilling art form ever introduced to the world - jazz.
- Dr. Evan Morse
When he wasn’t immersing himself in the natural world to learn all he could about animals, young Evan Morse found himself captivated by jazz.
Evan’s instrument since junior high school has been the alto sax, perhaps in homage to his inspiration, Charlie “Bird” Parker.
Morse earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Tuskegee University. He settled in Cleveland and established a successful veterinary practice and was recognized for his contributions to promoting racial diversity and inclusion in the profession.
His lifelong passion for jazz brought him to the attention of the Northeast Ohio Jazz Society. Dr. Morse was elected president and under his leadership, the society enjoyed new community partnerships and increased funding. Major jazz events were created, including the formation of the Tri-C JazzFest. He has continued his jazz advocacy throughout northeast Ohio as an in-demand lecturer.
