Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at Tri-C

If you are not already an active Tri-C student, you must first apply to the college. If you are interested in more than one health careers program, you must submit a separate health careers application for each program.  You may only apply to three programs at one time.

Completed applications are now being accepted for the General, Cardiac and Vascular specialties that begin Fall 2015. Applicants that completed all of the admission requirements by the end of the Summer 2014 semester should receive their acceptance letter by September 29, 2014.

The Associate of Applied Science degree prepares the student for an entry-level position as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer for employment in hospitals and other health care agencies. Cuyahoga Community College offers two Associate degrees in sonography depending on specialty chosen. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer produces, evaluates, and correlates ultrasound images and related data. Sonographers provide a summary of their technical findings to the qualified interpreting physician to aid in rendering a medical decision.

The curriculum consists of on-campus didactic and lab instruction, as well as off-campus clinical applications at our affiliated health care institutions.

The cohort-style program offers specialty training in the following options: , echocardiography or vascular technology or abdominal and obstetrical/gynecological sonography.  Clinical scanning experience hours, on-campus lectures, and labs are scheduled during the day, however, a few required lecture courses are offered in the evening.

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) . Information on program accreditation can be found at  The Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS) is the committee for accreditation that establishes the accreditation standards and guidelines in conjunction with CAAHEP.
