Diversifying Ohio in STEM
Choose Ohio First Scholarship 2012-2013
Eligible Majors
Diversifying Ohio in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics” (DO-STEM), is a program that will stimulate and diversify STEM postsecondary education in Ohio.
The goal of DO-STEM is to increase the number of Cuyahoga Community College and Central State University students who are pursuing and earning STEM degrees.
The project targets students who, due to financial reasons but demonstrating academic ability, may not attend college. These students will begin their post-secondary education at Cuyahoga Community College and complete their undergraduate and graduate studies at Central State University in STEM-related courses of study.
Activities include focused recruiting to targeted Cleveland Municipal School District high school seniors with tuition-only scholarship packages up to $3,500 per year.
Accepted students will be dually enrolled at Cuyahoga Community College and Central State University during their freshman and sophomore years.
A portion of the scholarship may be used to provide tuition for summer developmental courses.

Student Success in Mathematics
Choose Ohio First Scholarship 2012-2013
Eligible Majors
Student Success in Mathematics is a collaborative scholarship initiative which, in addition to CSU, includes CWRU, Tri-C, Kent State University, University of Akron and Youngstown State, along with high schools in eleven school districts and two community organizations (Cleveland Scholarship Program and SMART Consortium).
The objective is to increase the number of North East Ohio students interested in becoming STEM majors by working collaboratively to strengthen the mathematical preparation of first year students, thus increasing the number of Ohio students successfully pursuing and graduating with STEM degrees.
The project targets students whose mathematical preparation is such that they perform well in high school, but they are not completely prepared for entry-level STEM-track mathematics at the postsecondary level.

Choose Ohio First Engaged Scholarship Program in Bioscience and Healthcare
Choose Ohio First Scholarship 2012-2013
Eligible Majors
Bioscience and Healthcare Choose Ohio First Scholarship responds to the emerging labor market needs in the North East Ohio region by providing scholarships for students pursuing their education in these two areas.
The program purpose is to increase the number of Ohio students who will be prepared to address the challenges in bioscience as well as the long-term goal to provide training that will lead to and entrepreneurial-minded workforce in the Science, Technology, Math and Medicine (STEMM) disciplines.
This project targets students in the biological sciences and health care fields.
The project will prepare graduates by providing engaged learning (research and internship opportunities) and exposure activities to science entrepreneurship.

Ohio’s Integrated Science Training for Northeast Ohio’s Future Biomedical and Biotechnology Workforce

This collaborative scholarship program helps enhance access to higher education for first generation students and students from groups currently under-represented in the sciences.
The program intent is to improve student training in academic areas highly relevant to biomedicine and biotechnology, aid the transfer of students from two year colleges to and KSU will be further strengthened. To ensure a smooth transition from the respective two year college to KSU, a six-week summer bridge course will be offered.
This program will be tailored to the needs of this group of students and will review key concepts required for a successful start in the junior year.
KSU will also offer a junior year Science Learning Community for transfer students, which will have the same program features as an existing Sophomore Science Learning Community.
