Tri-C Receives 11th Consecutive HEED Award
Award recognizes colleges and universities committed to diversity and inclusion
Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) has received a 2023 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.
This is Tri-C’s 11th consecutive year receiving the award, which recognizes U.S. colleges and universities demonstrating an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.
"We are very proud to be a HEED Award recipient for the 11th consecutive year," said Michael A. Baston, president of Tri-C. "Through our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, Tri-C continues to work tirelessly to remove barriers to educational access and ensure all who seek a better life can find it here. We will continue to dedicate ourselves to building trust, respect and confidence among our employees, students and the community."
The College will be one of 107 recipients recognized in the November 2023 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity. Tri-C was one of seven Ohio schools — and the only community college in the state — to earn a 2023 HEED Award.
The award process consists of a comprehensive application examining various aspects of campus diversity and inclusion, including best practices for leadership support through recruiting and retaining students and employees and campus culture and climate.
"We take a detailed approach to reviewing each application when deciding who will be named a HEED Award recipient," said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. "Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being done every day across their campus."
