The Cuyahoga Community College Civic and Collegiate Concert Band was founded in 1978 by Dr. John Venesile, former music coordinator of Tri-C's Western Campus Music Department. He felt that the College needed some sort of an instrumental group to give its music students the opportunity to acquire large group instrumental playing experience before they went on to their 3rd and 4th year studies at other colleges or universities.
The group boasted 9 members at its inception; however, it has quadrupled from its original size during the past 25 years. In addition to Tri-C music students, the Band is also comprised of adult volunteer instrumentalists from a number of communities throughout the Cleveland metropolitan area.
The Band meets Tuesday evenings between 7:15-9:30 p.m.. The group gives 2 concerts per academic school year, a Fall Concert and Spring Concert. In addition, the Band performs in the Western Campus Amphitheatre, as part of the College Kaliopi Series, beginning on the first Sunday of June. They are also traditionally invited to perform a Holiday Concert at west side malls, Parmatown and Southpark.
